As it has been very clear to see from any news report or blog website, the last two weeks have provided an extremely frustrating time for any Playstation Owner. In the wake of a network security breach by hackers, the world’s leading entertainment provider has today entered a 3rd Week of unscheduled downtime and ensured that a ever-growing wave of customer dissatisfaction continues to be posted on public blog and social media sites.
‘RIP PS3 & PSN’
‘Unless you tell us a date on when it’s coming back. Please stop giving us pointless updates repeating the same thing you said on the last comment.’
Taken from the Official Playstation Blog, dated 6th May 2011
With shares down around 6.75% since the start of ‘hacking-gate’ and a number of eagerly anticipated PS3 releases such as Portal 2 performing well-below expected levels on the high street, Sony has now engaged into a ‘disaster management’ mode in an attempt to limit the damage, not only to the brand but also to the finances of the Japanese-Based Entertainment Giant.
With any luck, Playstation will be able to rectify the situation and live to fight another day by relying on the strength of the Playstation Brand that is almost synonimous with 21st Century living.
But what the last three weeks have demonstrated is the importance to any business, no matter what size of ensuring that their data is kept secure. This is especially important for small businesses who unlike Playstation, can’t rely on a strong brand reputation and in many cases, would probably be hammering in the ‘For Sale’ signs after 3 weeks of downtime.
Now we’re not talking retina scanners or fingerprint readers, but with minor networks adjustments and theexpertise from experienced and trusted engineers, small business can ensure that their data is kept secure and business critical information and processes can be maintained.
So next time you access your online business banking, check your HR records or take a payment from a customer, just take a second to consider the security of your network and if there are any doubts, then why not give Lily Systems a call?
