The new kid on the social media block that’s causing quite a commotion with lots of interest and hits is Pinterest. This pin board based scrapbook site is sending back more traffic to linked websites than Google+, LinkedIn and YouTube combined. It’s definitely one to keep your eye on, the monthly stats prove that.
The concept of the site is to pin images/pics, that you come across on your daily trawl through the internet, on your ‘wall’ and also to follow other people’s walls. This sharing and following gives a semi-viral nature to images. What this does for the originating site is produce a link back and consequently traffic.
The burning question is, “is this beneficial to your site”? I believe that if you have a visual offering, an e-commerce store, a photographer or a portfolio site say, then the answer is yes. people love looking at images and Pinterest makes this very, very easy and it also makes it easy to re-share images with the re-pin feature. I’m keeping an eye on our stats to see if we get an increase in referrals from this new social mover and shaker.
I’ll keep you pinned!!
